Winter activities

lake district

fresh air, crisp mornings, adventures with us!

The quieter months in the Lake District are definitely in the Winter.

It’s an ideal time to enjoy the beauty of the fells and mountain streams. We really enjoy the Winter sessions and we’re sure you will too. It’s adults only during these months and you can pretty much guarantee smaller group sizes. We are often out with just two people in the colder months.

There are apparently many benefits of cold water including boosted immunity, improved circulation and reduced muscle soreness. It’s also a mood booster- this is certainly the case as we see it after the session has finished how energised people can feel.

There is a fine line between enjoying the cold water and enduring it though! If you are doing an activity in the water, rather than dipping in and out an ice bath,  you need to wear the correct kit.

No need to worry about that with us as we will provide you with the best wetsuits along with additional kit to keep you comfortable.

After your session you can pop along to a nearby pub or cafe and enjoy a hot chocolate next to a roaring fire. Winter goals! Lanty Slee’s pub (was the Sticklebarn) in Langdale is ideally positioned for this after Stickle Ghyll.

If you really don’t fancy getting involved in a water based activity in Winter then get wrapped up and book abseiling instead. This is an exciting activity taking place at an impressive disused quarry near Coniston. So don’t let the colder weather put you off from visiting us in the Lake District this Winter, you’re missing out if you do!

All of the activities we offer are physical and involve a degree of fitness (some more than others). We recommend you look at each individual activity page to see if it is suitable for you. All of our activities involve wearing a harness, so your waist cannot exceed 46 inches or the safety equipment will not fit.

This is impossible to answer without knowing you or your group personally. If you read each activity page it will hopefully help, we can also give general guidance.

You will receive a full refund- or you can opt to rebook. There is no pressure to do this option. If we cancel  because of dangerous water conditions at a location (ghyll/canyoning) then we will try to offer an alternative if possible, which you are under no obligation to do.

We run our activities in all weather conditions if it’s safe to do so. If it’s raining and/or cold the activity will go ahead. Wrap up warm with waterproof clothing if you’re abseiling. For ghyll scrambling/canyoning we have high quality, thick canyoning specific wetsuits especially imported from Spain. We wear the same wetsuits as you – so you know you are getting excellent quality. If the rain has been heavy and persistent we may have to cancel/ swap locations if the water levels are dangerous (see question above)
