Patches, badges, stickers and more from Conquer Lake District in Keswick.
Climbed Scafell Pike? Buy a patch to put on your rucksack and start to build up a collection as you tick off your hikes. A great way to encourage kids into hillwalking too. The shop is located in Keswick on Lake Road and well worth a look. It’s beautifully designed with an American cabin vibe.
Giving the gift of a canyoning experience is great for the adventure seekers in your life. Canyoning is descending a mountain stream and can include jumping, sliding, abseiling and zip lining down waterfalls.
Crags Adventures have some extreme canyoning on offer at many locations:
Devils Canyon is the most technical outing. This activity involves everything mentioned above! It’s an epic trip for someone that’s adventurous and loves the outdoors and water.
Crypt Canyon is a slightly shorter trip than Devils Canyon. As there are no jumps on this one it’s a good choice if the gift recipient doesn’t like going fully under water. Crypt Canyon involves abseiling down waterfalls and it ends on a big zip line off one.
Coppermines Canyon is a 2-3 hour canyon trip that packs a punch! It’s probably the most popular location due to its shortness and price. Coppermines Canyon is in Coniston and involves sliding, jumping and roped lowers down waterfalls. A great adrenaline packed outing where you will be submerged in water from the start.
Buy that special someone a 2 year gift voucher that can be used as full or part payment towards any Crags Adventures activity.
Cumbria Crystal glassware or a glass blowing experience at their factory in Ulverston.
If your loved one thinks they are James Bond then you may as well buy them the Whisky tumbler he uses in Casino Royale. Their glassware has also been used in Peaky Blinders, Downton Abbey and many others.
They offer glass blowing experiences at their factory in Cumbria, including ‘Create a paperweight’.
A Michelin-starred restaurant ran by Simon Rogan, with a relaxed feel.
There is also L’Enclume in the small village of Cartmel, which has 3 Michelin stars and is also owned by Simon Rogan. We haven’t eaten here, but have treated ourselves to Rogans.
The service was the best, friendly and prompt. The food itself was a real treat (cocktails were too!). They have their own farm so you can really appreciate the quality ingredients used, with the changing of the seasons.
The music was great too and matched the relaxed atmosphere.
Do you know someone that fancies dangling off a rock face in the Lake District?
Luckily they will be attached to a rope! Abseiling is a great way to see a disused quarry in the Lake District from a different perspective.
Once the safety brief is complete and tips on how to abseil have been given, all you need to do is slowly lean back over the cliff. Nerve wracking for most but once you start your abseil down you can relax that the rope system has safely got you.
We will show them the tunnels that surround the abseil site- if they wish- and hopefully they will be raring to go again for another turn!
There are plenty of brewery’s to choose from in Cumbria and the Lake District so you can buy your favourite as a gift.
There is Shed One Distillery based in Ulverston, Cumbria. They are an award winning distillery and have some delicious spirits to buy. They also do distillery tours.
If beer is more the gift recipients thing then Lakes Brew Co have a great selection. They are based in Kendal, and also have a monthly pop up tap. They brew IPAs, Stouts, Ales, Bitters etc and have excellent reviews.
After a long day out on the fells or adventuring with us at Crags Adventures, it’s bliss to relax in a hot tub surrounded by beautiful scenery.
A couple of places that come to mind are:
The Low Wood in Ambleside – the infinity pool overlooks Windermere with views of the Langdale Pikes in the distance .
The Falls Spa in the Lodore Falls Hotel. It feels like you’re in an Alpine location when you’re in the outside heated pool here. It’s located in Borrowdale, on the shores of Derwentwater.
There are many other spa hotels in the Lake District from Keswick to Windermere and everywhere in-between.
In fact buy all of their puddings as a gift and hopefully you can also indulge!
Although their Sticky Toffee pudding is the most well known, my favourite is the Sticky Ginger pudding. The puddings are still made locally using 100% natural ingredients.
Make sure you have plenty of cream at the ready!
What is Ghyll scrambling? You are ascending a ghyll (a mountain stream) which can include climbing up waterfalls and jumping into the stream as you go.
Stickle Ghyll in Langdale which is a great 2-3 hours of fun as you make your way up the ghyll doing various challenges along the way. There are trust falls into the water, waterfall climbs and obstacles to overcome.
A fantastic few hours of fun that can end with you relaxing in one of the local pubs. There is Lanty Slees (was the Sticklebarn), The New Dungeon Ghyll and Old Dungeon Ghyll nearby.
Esk ghyll is a longer outing we do in Eskdale. This ghyll scramble activity in the Lake District involves loads of jumps into the ghyll as you gradually make your way up stream. It’s an excellent choice if your loved one likes water, being submerged in it and jumping from height into it.
There is also a pub called the Woolpack Inn which is a short distance away for when you finish if you fancy a bite to eat.
