The colossal canyoning experience

More Details...

What’s Involved?

A mega canyoning descent involving big abseils & terrifying zip-lines off huge waterfalls as well as slides, and an optional jump. Its action galore!

Who is it for?

This is for adults only (18+)

The venue:

This is the ultimate in Lake District canyoning. You will descend it, doing battle with its truly colossal waterfalls and vertical drops. Its ziplines, abseils and slides are the BIGGEST the Lakes has to offer and its guaranteed to get the adrenaline pumping.

This is an action packed Lake District canyoning experience that’s set in a secret location that will blow your mind.

The parking at the location is free. But, there are no changing or toilet facilities, so changing will take place in a lay-by prior to setting off on the adventure.

what's Involved at Devils Canyon?

After meeting and getting changed into wetsuits we walk the steep and gruelling 40 minute ascent to the start point. Everyone will be given a bag to carry filled with either rope, the first aid kit or snacks needed for the activity.

On route to the location, we stop and teach you how to use the specialised canyoning equipment in the Lake District and how to abseil before we then enter the canyon and tackle it as team.

Be warned; Devils Canyon has a dark side – its dangers are ever present, lurking in its depths trying to catch you off guard. Its water will try to pound you into submission weakening your body and mind, its exposed location will quietly rob you of what little heat and rational thinking you possess and its doomed depths will try to ensnare you.

Do you have what it takes to attempt ‘The COLOSSAL Canyoning Experience’?

who does Devils Canyon suit?

This canyon is adults only (18+).  No previous experience is required, however, you will find it beneficial if you have previously taken part in abseiling and/or canyoning prior to coming out. You must be active, fit and able.

You must have no fear of water, being inside a waterfall or of being fully submerged and you must be good with heights. Additionally, you must also be able to walk unaided and without the fear of slippy rocks. The canyon is exposed to the weather so you must be able to withstand a bit of discomfort as you wait for the ropes to be set-up/taken down between waterfalls.

So to reinforce the point – this really isn’t a good option for those who haven’t done anything outdoorsy in the past, those who are largely inactive and unfit, those who do not like water or getting their face wet and people who cannot endure a bit of discomfort. But if none of this applies, then this could be the ultimate adrenaline-filled Lake District activity for you.

Safety info:

The canyon isn’t easily escapable once we enter it,  making it a committing outing. Due to the steep terrain surrounding the ravine you cannot simply walk around obstacles if you decide you have bitten off more than you can chew.

This isn’t a “dip your toes and see how you feel” activity, therefore please choose your team wisely.

This location cannot handle heavy prolonged rain and will be cancelled in times of high water as the flow becomes too powerful.

Our Latest FAQ

All of the activities we offer are physical and involve a degree of fitness (some more than others). We recommend you look at each individual activity page to see if it is suitable for you. All of our activities involve wearing a harness, so your waist cannot exceed 46 inches or the safety equipment will not fit.

This is impossible to answer without knowing you or your group personally. If you read each activity page it will hopefully help, we can also give general guidance.

A deposit is required to secure your chosen date, time and activity if you are booking more than 14 days in advance. Your deposit is non refundable or transferable. Full payment is required within 14 days

No sorry, none of our activities are suitable for a dog to join in.

There are no refunds/rescheduling if you miss the meet time and the session may start without you. You may be joining others, we may have a group after you etc so can’t always delay the start time. Allow plenty of time to travel around the Lake District. The traffic from Windermere especially from mid morning can be very slow with jams. Mobile reception is limited but we will have your mobile number and you will have ours on the PDF Info sheet you receive when you book.

You will lose the deposit payment if you cancel with more than 14 days notice. If you cancel within 14 days you will lose the full balance.

You will receive a full refund- or you can opt to rebook. There is no pressure to do this option. If we cancel  because of dangerous water conditions at a location (ghyll/canyoning) then we will try to offer an alternative if possible, which you are under no obligation to do.

We run our activities in all weather conditions if it’s safe to do so. If it’s raining and/or cold the activity will go ahead. Wrap up warm with waterproof clothing if you’re abseiling. For ghyll scrambling/canyoning we have high quality, thick canyoning specific wetsuits especially imported from Spain. We wear the same wetsuits as you – so you know you are getting excellent quality. If the rain has been heavy and persistent we may have to cancel/ swap locations if the water levels are dangerous (see question above)
