Make Hay While The Sun Shines

Once again this year that funny yellow thingy in the sky managed to fight its way through the heavy rain clouds that were engulfing the mountain tops and basked the fells of the English Lake District in a wonderful (short-lived) heat wave.

With the 5-day heat wave came rumours of a ‘late summer’ and more importantly came tourists. People were out running, cyclists were whizzing round every corner, children with nets filled every stream, and hikers donning their finest attire crowded the mountain tops, weaving their way up the paths looking like a tiny line of ants on an ant hill.

The weather got that serious that I very nearly wore sun cream! Not wishing to waste our very generous offering from the sun gods, CRAGS ADVENTURES decided to head out and engage in the summer antics.

The following is a brief report of our last week:

Unfortunately Alex and Lucy were a bit premature in their ghyll arrangements and got here literally ‘ONE’ day before the weather broke. I think it’s fair to say that the conditions they encountered were slightly ‘EPIC’ due to the water levels. I think it is fair to say that Lucy definitely got placed just outside her comfort zone and faced up to any fears she initially had. Well done and thank you for an exhilarating day!

The rest of the week was celebrated with a whole host of activities:

Wild Camping – We saw an upside down rainbow!!!!

Deep Water Soloing

Abseiling

Backwards (forwards) Abseiling

Swimming

Sinking

Jumping

Mine Exploring

Via Ferrata (ish)

Swinging

The end of the sunny spell was spent with the Brown family from Suffolk. They were staying at the fantastic ‘Greenhowe Caravan Park’ in the Langdale Valley (well worth a visit).

The Brown’s wanted to sample Ghyll Scrambling and so CRAGS ADVENTURES took them to Stickle Ghyll and we all enjoyed a very rare ‘warm’ splash around.

No-one enjoyed it more than Hannah and Callum who left very positive feedback.

“This is the best day ever, even better than my birthday. Can we do it tomorrow and the day after, and the one after that, we’ll pay you 63’000!” – Hannah aged 8.

“You can ring us every day to come out and play. You should move to Suffolk near us and do it there” – Callum aged 10.
